Worksheet-8
Imagine the editor of your school magazine has asked you to write an article for the school magazine on the topic “Teenagers: Their Habits and Hobbies’. You have made a survey and collected the following data. Based on the data, write an article comparing and contrasting the habits and preferences that exist among teenage boys and girls. Give reasons for their choice.
For the Teacher
Remind the students of the use of CODER.
Teenagers today lead diverse and dynamic lives. A recent survey of teenage boys and girls revealed striking similarities as well as differences in how they spend their time. This article presents a comparison of their habits and preferences based on hours spent weekly on various activities.
To begin with, playing is clearly more popular among boys, who spend 14 hours a week, compared to 6 hours by girls. This may be because boys generally show greater interest in outdoor sports and physical games, whereas girls may prefer quieter activities.
Reading is the only area where both boys and girls spend an equal amount of time—6 hours per week. This indicates a shared interest in reading, although the types of books they enjoy may differ.
When it comes to television viewing, girls spend 12 hours, which is slightly more than boys, who spend 10 hours a week. This could be because girls tend to follow specific serials or reality shows regularly.
Studying shows the greatest difference. Girls devote 18 hours per week to studying, while boys spend only 12 hours. This reflects that girls, on average, may be more consistent in academic work, even though boys are not far behind.
Lastly, in the case of hobbies, girls again spend more time (9 hours) compared to boys (7 hours). This may be because girls are often more involved in creative activities such as drawing, crafting, or music.
Therefore, the habits and hobbies of teenage boys and girls show both overlapping interests and unique preferences. Understanding these patterns helps parents, teachers, and peers support teenagers better in their growing years.
