B.1. What is your definition of a holiday? With changing times, the concept of a fun-filled vacation has changed too. Fill up the blank spaces with the activities you would like to engage in during your vacation. This will help you to understand the change.

B.2. On the basis of your listening to the conversation about the summer vacation plans of the three friends, complete the following statements.

(a) Bineet is excited about his modelling assignment but a little worried about the grooming lessons he has to put in and the money he has to pay.
(b) Chirag had taken up the job of a landscaper earlier. The job of landscaper is more paying than that of intern, he says.
(c) Jhanvi is looking forward to her visit to Kupala because she will be able to go for long walks and do a lot of swimming.

B.3. Organise yourselves into groups of four. Two students should go around the school and ask two teenagers each what they plan to do during their next summer vacation and what they enjoyed/did not enjoy doing last year. The other two should put the same questions to any two adults (parents/ neighbours/teachers) and complete the following table.

Family trips, relaxing time at home, volunteering or pursuing hobbies.

  • What is the difference in the likes/dislikes of the two age groups?
    • Teenagers prefer excitement, novelty, and peer involvement.
    • Adults prefer meaningful, relaxing, or family-oriented experiences.
  • What are the probable reasons for these variations?
    • Differences in responsibilities, energy levels, and personal interests.
    • Teenagers are often discovering themselves; adults seek balance and peace.

B.5. Imagine you are a press reporter. Based on the survey you conducted in B.3. and the discussion you had with your group in B.4., write a newspaper report based on your findings. You may organise your report in the following way.

Teenagers vs Adults: What Makes a Perfect Vacation?

by Radhika Sharma
Date & City: 12 June 2025, New Delhi

Para 1:
A recent school-led survey on vacation preferences among teenagers and adults has produced some interesting results. The aim was to observe the evolving trends in holiday planning across different age groups.

Para 2:
Teenagers today seem to enjoy engaging in skill-development programmes like coding camps or digital content workshops. For some, it’s about freedom and travel with friends. However, more traditional vacation ideas like visiting relatives often don’t excite them.

Para 3:
Adults, in contrast, mostly enjoy quiet family holidays or activities that allow them to give back to the community, like volunteering. These help them unwind from their hectic schedules and give meaning to their free time.

Para 4:
The differences between the two groups can be attributed to priorities and life stages. While teenagers are curious, energetic, and thrill-seeking, adults are often more reflective and in need of relaxation. The roles and responsibilities each carries also influence their preferences.

Para 5:
In conclusion, a perfect vacation is one that satisfies the emotional and physical needs of the individual. A thoughtful mix of fun, learning, and rest could create ideal holidays for people of all ages.
