Dig – to move earth and make a hole in the ground

Pit – a large hole that is made in the ground

Manure – the waste matter from animals that is put on the ground in order to make plants grow better

Answer – The God of water was sad because Ramesh was always throwing garbage into water and polluting it.

(iv) What might happen to a person who drinks dirty water?

Answer – If a person drinks dirty water then he or she may catch diseases like typhoid and jaundice.

A.7. Life Skills

How do we all knowingly or unknowingly contribute to water pollution? How can children help in curbing water pollution?

Answer – We all knowingly or unknowingly contribute to water pollution. We all use plastics items and then we dump it into water bodies. Waste from household, agricultural land and factories are also dumped into river or lakes.

Children can help in curbing water pollution by following ways.

They can form a group and teach others about methods to curb water pollution.

Kids can guide other people not to throw waste in water.

They should tell their elders not to drain household waste into water.

A.8. The teacher solves Ramesh’s problem by suggesting to him the correct way of garbage disposal. Ramesh recollects the instructions to convey them to his father. Help him in doing so.

i) Dig a pit outside the house.

ii) Put the garbage into the pit.

iii) Cover the pit with leaves.

iv) Leave the pit for few days.

v) The garbage will turn into manure.

vi) Use the manure in the fields.

Now frame a set of instructions for sowing a sapling. You may use the words given below.

Step- 1 – Dig a pit in the ground.

Step- 2 – Remove soil from the pit.

Step- 3 – Place the sapling into the pit gently.

Step- 4 – Cover the root of sapling with soil.

Step- 5 – Water the sapling everyday.

Step- 6 – Protect the sapling from hot Sun, birds and animals.
