Answer – In olden times people believed that the earth was flat and they might fall of it if they travelled to the edge of the earth, so, they feared to travel to far away. places.
2. Describe the journey of Magellan that proved that the earth was round.
Answer – Ferdinand Magellan and his crew began a voyage from spain in 1519. It started with five ships and a crew of 270. Almost two years later it ended at the same place with only 18 surviving members. It proved that the earth was round.
3. Mention two uses of maps.
Answer – Two uses of maps are:-
Maps show natural features of the earth such as mountains, water bodies, boundaries of the states and cities etc.
Maps also act as a guide to locate places.
4. Name two movements of the Earth. Explain each briefly.
Answer – The two movements of the earth are Rotation and Revolution.
Rotation – It is the movement of the earth on its axis, from west to east.
The earth takes 24 hrs to complete one rotation.
It causes day and night.
Revolution: It is the movement of the earth around the Sun on a fixed path called orbit. • It takes 365 days and six hours to complete one revolution.
It causes change in seasons.

Answer – If I get separated from my parents in a crowded market, then I could take the following steps.
i) The first thing I would do is to remain cool and calm because composing panic can make thing worse, and it can be challenging to think and act rationally.
ii) I can call my parents on their mobile and tell to them a land mark where we can meet.
iii) I can approach nearby announcements centre and make announcement.

1. Which map of India will be bigger-one drawn to a scale of- 1 centimetre: 100 kilometres or one to a scale of 1 centimetre: 50 kilometres? Why?
Answer – The map drawn with the scale of 1 centimetre: 50 kilometres will be bigger. This is because the actual distance on ground in India will always remain constant. If the map is of scale 1 centimetre: 100 kilometres will indicate 100 kilometres which is a large area in only 1 centimetre.
2. Is the length of all lines of latitudes equal or unequal to each other? Give reasons for your answer. What about the lines of longitudes?
Answer – The length of all lines of latitudes are unequal to each other because they are complete circles and circumference decreases from equator towards the pole remain equidistant from each other. The lines of longitude are of equal length.
3. Take a political map of India. Find out the actual distance between Mumbai and your state. Show it on a scale.
