  1. Read the following:

The monkeys took away the basket full of fruits.

Discuss with your friend and try to find out what the sentence is about.

Is it about-

the monkeys,

the basket, or

the fruits?

Remember: The subject tells what/who the sentence is about; the predicate tells more about the subject.

Neha has bought a book.

Subject: Neha

Predicate: has bought a book

Karan and Rohan were playing tennis.

Subject: Karan and Rohan

Predicate: were playing tennis

The beautiful flower filled the air with its fragrance.

Subject: The beautiful flower

Predicate: filled the air with its fragrance

Do the elephants have any teeth?

Subject: The elephants

Predicate: do have any teeth

Who broke the chair?

Subject: Who

Predicate: broke the chair

Are you Ritu’s brother?

Subject: You

Predicate: are Ritu’s brother

Remember: All sentences (questions, statements, commands) have a subject and a predicate.

The above sentences are command sentences. Can you find the subject in these sentences?

In command sentences, the subject is not mentioned; it is understood.

The above two sentences actually mean:

You open the door.

You show me your notebook.
