Answer – Sketch gives us rough idea of place and helps in locating a place. It guides us with words like right – left, front back and give some landmarks like church, road, hospital etc.

Answer – Four problem that we can face if we do not know directions are:-

It is difficult to reach the destination.

4. What do you understand by the language of a map? Why is it important to use same map symbols all over the world?

Answer – The symbols and signs used to indicate different features of map is called language of Map. It is important to learn because same map symbols are used in all over the world. Moreover, people may not know every country’s language so, if they were unable to find direction they can gather information from the maps easily. 

5. How will you find different directions if you do not have a compass?

Answer – If we don’t have a compass, we can find different direction with the help of Sun. As sun rises from east, in the noon it is in the south and in evening Sun sets in west.

Answer – I will ensure that my father is able to find the destination quickly by using a map and guiding him with ways and direction or by using navigation system.

SOMETHING TO DO

1. You can play a ‘globe game’ with your friend. All you need is a globe and a stopwatch. Pick up any city and ask your friend to locate it within a fixed time.

Answer – Students will play this ‘globe game’ under the supervision of Social Science teacher.

2. Hold a compass and move it around in a circle in clockwise direction. You will

be able to make out all the other directions from the ‘N’.

Answer – Students will do this task under the supervision of Social Science teacher.

3. Take a bangle or a plate. Trace it in your notebook. Take a compass and mark North. Name the other directions. Draw different objects in each direction.

4. Directions Game-

Divide the class into four groups. Each group must choose one direction-east, west, etc. Allot each side of the room to different groups and accordingly ask them to sit there. Example, children who have chosen North direction will occupy the North side of the room.

Teacher will call out an item in a random direction and

the related group has to call out-North or South, as the case may be. The group giving the fastest and the wolf Lemort is, biso most correct answers will be the winner! Teacher can also give green cards for correct answers and red cards for wrong answers that can be counted at the end of the game.
