CITY-LIFE Versus COUNTRY-LIFE

essay on Town-Life-and-Village-Life

Introduction

It has been the most debatable question, whether city-life is better than country life or vice versa. Many times this question is put to debate and students speak for and against the motion. But both are two different ways of life and each has its own separate virtues.

Advantage of country-life over city-life

The countryside is full of natural sceneries which have profound effect on the country-life. The phenomena of the countryside are natural and lively. They are serene and peaceful. Hence, one will certainly contact this peacefulness and will get the peace of mind and heart. On the contrary, the cities do not have these facilities. The city people are disturbed by the din and bustle of the city. Wherever they move, they are troubled by dust and smoke. The rattling sounds of the running carriages and the piercing shouts of the street-hawkers resound on their ear-drums. The sights that they get to see are man-made and artificial. The city-people are always busy and hurry. Hence, peace for them is out of question.

In the countryside, greens and vegetables are available in fresh condition. But in the cities these things are old and stale. In the countryside, the people of a village know one another. They live like a happy family. But in the city, one does not know even his immediate neighbour.

Advantages of city-life over country-life

The cities are full of modern amenities. In a city, we find the facilities of high education, study and culture, research and experiment. We find the facilities of the ties of the best kind of medical and surgical treatment. In a city, a man never sits unemployed. He finds work. He finds scope to rise and to make a fortune. The countryside cannot provide such facilities to the people dwelling within her limit.

Conclusion

The city-life and the country-life both are two different ways of living which have their own separate virtues and neither of them is free from their separate failings. Some great men have left their wealth and buildings in the cities to live a life of peace and innocence in the country-side. Conversely, some to live a life of modern enjoyment in the cities and towns. wealthy people of the country-side have left their country house It all depends on the taste and temperament of a man to choose either of these two ways of living. A man of spiritual outlook will certainly appreciate the country-life whereas a man of material outlook will no doubt speak high of the city-life.
