सच्ची मित्रता।
दो मित्र थे सुनील और रमेश। इनकी दोस्ती बचपन से थी। पर समय के साथ-साथ रमेश की दोस्ती कमजोर पड़ने लगी। बड़ा होकर जब वह थोड़ा धनवान बन गया तो उसे अहंकार हो गया। सुनील अपने दोस्त की उन्नति से तो खुश था पर उसके अहंकार से दुखी। एक बार तो रमेश ने अहंकार में एक भले आदमी की खूब बेइज्जती की। सुनील उसे समझाता कि उसे ऐसा नहीं करना चाहिए पर वह उसे भी भला बुरा कह देता। सुनील को पता था कि दुश्मनों से लड़ना आसान है पर दोस्तों से नहीं। वह अपने दोस्त को यूँ ही गर्व में लिप्त नहीं छोड़ सकता था। एक दिन रमेश ने जब उसे अपने जन्मदिन की पार्टी में बुलाया तो सुनील सहर्ष उस पार्टी में गया। उसने रमेश को एक उपहार भी दिया। पार्टी के बाद जब रमेश ने अपने मित्र सुनील का उपहार खोला तो देखकर दंग रह गया। उपहार में एक मटके के अंदर कुछ राख भरा हुआ था। उपहार के साथ एक कागज टुकड़े पर लिखा हुआ था-
प्रिय मित्र,
हम सबको एक दिन इसी तरह मटके में राख की तरह हो जाना है, तो अहंकार किस बात का।

यह पढ़कर रमेश को अपनी गलती का एहसास हुआ और वह एक भला मानुष बन गया।
कहानी का उद्देश्य
वास्तव में अहंकार एक बीमारी है। यह बीमारी जिसे भी हो जाती है वह अपने गलत कामों को भी सही मानता है।

True friendship.
There were two friends, Sunil and Ramesh. They had been friends since childhood. But with time Ramesh’s friendship started weakening. When he grew up and became a little rich, he became arrogant. Sunil was happy with his friend’s progress but saddened by his arrogance. Once, Ramesh insulted a good man out of arrogance. Sunil would explain to him that he should not do this but he would also abuse him. Sunil knew that it was easy to fight with enemies but not with friends. He could not leave his friend indulging in pride like this. One day when Ramesh invited him to his birthday party, Sunil happily went to that party. He also gave a gift to Ramesh. After the party, when Ramesh opened his friend Sunil’s gift, he was stunned to see it. The gift contained some ashes inside a pot. There was a piece of paper written along with the gift –
Dear friend,
One day we all have to become like ashes in a pot., So what is ego about?

After reading this, Ramesh realized his mistake and became a good person.
Moral of the story
Actually ego is a disease. Whoever gets this disease considers his wrong deeds as right.
