People At Work, My English Reader, Class VII, DAV Board, The Best Solutions – Introduction

Introduction

  1. Look at the list of people given below and encircle the ones whose vocation does not affect our lifestyle at all.

From the list:

  • Singer
  • Florist

While singers and florists do contribute to society, their roles are not essential for daily functioning compared to others like doctors, plumbers, or drivers.

II. ‘The work done by each individual is important and it affects our lives directly or indirectly.’ Discuss in groups of four.

“The work done by each individual is important and it affects our lives directly or indirectly.”

Even if we may not notice it, every job plays a role in our lives. For example:

  • A sweeper keeps our environment clean and disease-free.
  • An electrician ensures we have power for light, fans, and appliances.
  • A courier man delivers important letters and packages.
Even a singer, though not essential for survival, plays a role in providing emotional relief and entertainment. Hence, no job is small, and all vocations deserve respect.

III. In the word basket at the bottom of this page, several professions are

mentioned. Each one of them falls in one of the categories mentioned below. Complete the job ladder by writing appropriate profession on each rung.
